This play was written by Niccolo Machiavelli, and is a fairly typical Italian Renaissance satire. I played the old man, Nicia. We had great costumes, and the cast had a lot of fun with this show. Our audiences were small (probably because this show is not well-known), but it was a great learning experience. And isn't that what a college theater program is all about?
This was so long ago, I don't remember any major fiascoes.
Advice for others:
This show has a lot in common with the Commedia dell'Arte shows, but without the improv. Every character is almost a caricature. Keep it fast and light. Make sure you have a good translation of the piece; otherwise the audience will get a little lost.
