This was my first acting role since graduating from college in 1985. There was a lot of rust to knock off! I originally inquired about being the Lighting Designer, and the director persuaded me to audition. I ended up playing Carter and designing the lights. It was tricky to create two different sets in the space where we were performing at the time, but we managed to pull it off. I still don't know if the lighting in the office scenes was any good, as I was busy acting in those. But the courtroom scenes were terrific (lighting-wise, at least).
I made many good friends in this production, and I still keep in touch with the director and her husband, who have since moved to Texas.
Carter (the barrister's clerk) and Greta (the typist) are the comic relief in this show. Carter is almost a stereotypical English butler type. Very fussy, very proper.
Even in the heaviest drama, the comic parts are important. Perhaps even more so. Don't overlook them.
